Heating & Cooling Rebates

DTE Energy

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the overwhelming response, DTE had to halt it's rebate program effective October 15, 2009. It may start back up in January 2010 if they have additional funds available.

Rebates for Furnaces, Central Air Conditioners and Water Heaters

Savings are in the air and water.

As much as half the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So your home's heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system has a big effect on your utility bills.

DTE Energy's Your Energy SavingsSM program offers great rebates on select, energy efficient air conditioners, furnaces and water heaters.

  • Upgrade your old HVAC system today and take advantage of rebates from $100 to $350

  • Upgrade your water heater to an ENERGY STAR model with rebates from $35 to $150

Boost your purchase savings even further by taking advantage of promotional rebates offered by equipment manufacturers and potential Federal tax credits of up to 30% of the purchase price for equipment, up to a maximum household credit of $1,500.

Customer Eligibility

The Your Energy Savings HVAC and water heater rebate program serves residential customers in single and multi-family dwellings of three units or less, who purchase new central air conditioning units, heat pumps, natural gas furnaces and/or water heating equipment. See the table below for further eligibility information.

To participate in the program, these eligibility requirements must be met:

  1. You must be a Detroit Edison and/or a MichCon customer

  2. The equipment or energy-saving measure you install must meet the efficiency requirements set forth by the program guidelines

  3. All measures must have been installed by a State of Michigan licensed contractor (except water heaters), who must be identified on the incentive claim form

  4. The incentive claim form must be completed in its entirety and submitted with all required documentation

  5. Your application must be for equipment purchased on or after June 3, 2009

If forms are completed correctly and all required information is supplied (e.g., receipts), you can expect payment within six to eight weeks of submittal.

Combining Rebates

Equipment can be combined to qualify for multiple rebates. For example, if you are served by both Detroit Edison and MichCon, you can purchase a qualifying 94 percent  AFUE gas furnace ($300 rebate from MichCon) combined with a qualifying 15 SEER air conditioning system ($250 rebate from Detroit Edison) to qualify for a total rebate of $550.

What if replacing your heating and cooling equipment could save you $200 a year? According to ENERGY STAR® it can. With heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) accounting for 50 percent of your total energy use, switching to energy efficient components can lower your bill and still keep you comfortable all year.

Consumers Energy has valuable rebates on energy efficient air conditioners and furnaces that can make your purchase more affordable. If your system has reached its rated lifetime, usually between 10 and 15 years, use our rebates to upgrade to high-efficiency equipment. It will give you a striking difference in energy costs.

Here’s how to receive your rebate.

Look below to see all the heating and cooling rebates from Consumers Energy. Only qualifying products are eligible and must have been installed on or after July 27, 2009. To receive your rebate, download an application form, fill it out completely, then return it by mail, with all required documentation, to the address listed on the rebate form.

A licensed contractor must install most of the qualifying products and be indentified on the application. If you have additional questions, please call Consumers Energy at (866) 234-0445.
