R&L Heating and Cooling began serving the Downriver area in 1977, focusing on residential heating and air conditioning. Just a few years later, the company was officially incorporated in 1981 and continued to grow through consistent, reliable service and strong relationships with local homeowners.

In 2022, the company entered a new chapter when Jeff Bates and his partner Joe purchased R&L. With more than two decades of experience in the HVAC industry, Jeff brought a practical, field-tested perspective to the business. He started as a technician, spent years working directly on systems, and later moved into leadership, all of which still influence how the company operates today.

Growth continued in 2024 with the acquisition of Hearthside Heating, which expanded service into the Madison Heights area and enabled more homeowners to experience the same level of care R&L has delivered for decades.
