R&L Heating and Cooling Giving Back to the Community We Call Home

At R&L Heating and Cooling, giving back is more than something we talk about. It’s part of who we are.

For 45 years, families throughout the Downriver area have trusted us to help keep their homes comfortable. That trust means everything to us, and it’s one of the reasons we strongly support the people and organizations that make this community special.

Some causes simply hit closer to home.

For Joe, supporting families with special needs has always been deeply personal. His brother, Robbie, was born with Down syndrome and a heart defect. After surgery to repair the defect, complications left Robbie completely deaf. Like many families navigating similar challenges, their family experienced firsthand how important support systems and community programs can be.

As a child, Robbie participated in the SNAP Program (Special Needs Activities Program) in Trenton. It gave him a place to connect, participate, and build friendships in an environment where he felt included and supported. Today, Robbie is involved with Downriver ARC, an organization that continues to provide opportunities and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the community.

Those experiences never left Joe.

They shaped the way he looks at giving back.

Every family deserves to feel safe and comfortable at home. But when life gets difficult, even basic necessities can become overwhelming.

As Joe and Jeff searched for ways R&L could make a real impact locally, Robbie Jernigan nominated Crystal, a hardworking mother raising a child with special needs while doing everything she can to make ends meet.

Her story resonated with the team immediately.

Nobody should have to worry about whether their home will stay warm in the winter or cool during the summer while already carrying so much responsibility. That’s why R&L Heating and Cooling stepped in to donate a new HVAC system for Crystal and her family.

A working heating and cooling system may seem simple to some people. To others, it can mean peace of mind. Better sleep. Less stress. One less thing to worry about.

The giving didn’t stop there.

Robbie also proudly presented a $500 donation to Downriver ARC to support the organization and the families it serves every day.
